Despite the election results, 2004 was an incredible year for MoveOn PAC and for the progressive movement. MoveOn PAC members helped make Fahrenheit 9/11 a hit; sent tens of thousands of letters to the editor; held what must have been the world's largest bake sale; made millions of phone calls to swing-state voters; registered tens of thousands of voters; donated millions to Senate and House candidates; and in the end, got somewhere over 600,000 voters who would not have voted otherwise to the polls. MoveOn PAC ran powerful ads that were seen by millions; held the Vote for Change Tour with Springsteen, R.E.M., the Dixie Chicks, Dave Matthews, and more; and mobilized many of America's foremost directors through the 10 Weeks and Real People ad campaigns. Campaigns

MoveOn Members Endorse
MoveOn Members Endorse raised over $5 million in critical donations for outstanding candidates for the U.S. House and Senate. Two emails asking members to donate to John Kerry's campaign generated $4 million in direct donations.

Super RalliesLeave No Voter Behind
Leave No Voter Behind: MoveOn’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor Victory Drive was a massive grassroots organizing campaign to turn out 440,000 new voters for John Kerry. Phone banking and canvassing efforts began in the spring, with members calling over 300,000 voters on May 8 – using their own donated cell phone minutes. Leave No Voter Behind swung into full gear over the summer when MoveOn PAC raised $5 million to hire 500 full time organizers to work in swing states. Hundreds of thousands of MoveOn members participated, including 70,000 on Election Day alone. In swing states, members went door-to-door in key neighborhoods. In non-swing states, "precinct partners" held phone banking parties that made over 1 million calls to voters on Nov. 2.

While we were disappointed to lose the election, the campaign was an unquestionable success – over 472,000 contacted voters checked in with MoveOn volunteers to let us know that they'd voted for John Kerry. In several key states including New Hampshire and Wisconsin, the number of voters mobilized by MoveOn members exceeded John Kerry's margin of victory.

Events & Fundraisers

MoveOn Members in Action - Video Bakesales for Democracy
In MoveOn PAC's Bake Sale for Democracy, more than 14,000 volunteer bakers organized over 1,100 bake sales to raise money for MoveOn PAC’s campaign to “Bake Back the White House.” With an average of nearly $700 raised per bake sale, cookie sales yielded over $750,000 to support efforts to remove George Bush from office in 2004.

Fahrenheit 9/11 House Parties
MoveOn PAC helped make Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 a number one box-office hit when over 100,000 members pledged to go see it on opening weekend. Volunteers handed out flyers inviting moviegoers to “Turn Up the Heat: A National Town Meeting” the following weekend. Over 30,000 members participated in the online town meeting, which featured guest speaker Michael Moore (listen). Many attendees volunteered to hold or attend phone banking parties on July 11 – during which 14,000 new voters were registered in battleground states.
